On April22, 2010 the EPALead-Based Paint Renovation, Repair & Painting Program (RRP) is implemented requiring pre-renovation education as well as training, certification, and work practice requirements.

What Is the Lead-Based Paint Renovation, Repair & Painting Program (RRP)?

  • The Lead-Based Paint Renovation, Repair and Painting Program is a federal regulatory program affecting contractors, property managers, and others who disturb painted surfaces.

  • It applies to residential houses, apartments, and child-occupied facilities such as schools and day-care centers built before 1978.

  • It includes pre-renovation education requirements as well as training, certification, and work practice requirements.

Litchfield Builders has obtained certification in lead-safe practices by the EPA. 

 Litchfield Builders won the 2009 AIA Connecticut Design Award for the Office of Sustainability, Yale University, New Haven, CT

September 2009 Assa Abloy engages Litchfield to recreate the Innovation Hallway in the corporate heaquarters in New Haven.  In addition a “Green Room” is added showcasing the door and lock manufacturers latest “green” products.  All design and construction is completed on schedule prior to the annual meeting.

April 2009 Kevin Ahern takes classes to become CGP – Certified Green professional. Through the National Green Building Program, the National Association of Home Builders is helping its members move the practice of green building into the mainstream. Energy efficiency, water and resource conservation, sustainable or recycled products, and indoor air quality are increasingly incorporated into the everyday process of home building and remodeling.

Congratulations to Kevin Ahern on winning Home Builders Association of New Haven County Remodeler of the Year.  Kevin accepts the award on behalf of the staff of Litchfield at the Country House in East Haven.

Joining the Litchfield family this spring is Carpenter John Sullo.  John comes from a custom hardwood floor company with extensive millwork training to add to the Litchfield Millwork Team.

Litchfield welcomes John Doyle and Ken Witteman to our team.  John and Kenny join the Litchfield Builders family as carpenters after gaining extensive work experience at other local construction firms.

Litchfield welcomes William Brighenti CPA and Carpenter David Alonzo to the team.  Bill comes to Litchfield to take on the long awaited role of full time controller.

The long awaited full time employment of Anthony Bonito has arrived.  Tony is long time special projects subcontractor since the inception of Litchfield in the late 80’s.  He now joins the team as full time construction superintendant.

The estimating department at Litchfield welcomes Dan Miccinello as lead estimator.  Dan gained valuable work experience at Stock Building Supply and The Kitchen Factor.

Litchfield Builders celebrates the official move of its headquarters to State Street in Hamden.  More than triple the size of the old building, Litchfield fuels its growth and presence as one of the area’s best general contractors.  With an expanded Millwork operation and storage facility they will be able to handle more projects in the coming years.

January 2003 Litchfield Builders, Inc. and the NAHB congratulate Jim Ahern on his attaining of the Certified Graduate Remodelor certification this month. With Jim’s certification, Litchfield Builders, Inc is now the only New Haven County company with multiple CGR’s on staff. Congratulations Jim!
October 2002 North Haven Adult Education class on October 1st “Understanding the process of remodeling your home” put on by Kevin Ahern.  Kevin is the president of New Haven County Home Builders Association and Litchfield Builders, Inc.

July 2002 Congratulations to Kevin Ahern, he recently received Certified Graduate Remodelor certification making him the only remodelor in New Haven County currently with the designation.
June 2002 Kevin Ahern is installed for his second term as local Home Builders Association President. In his acceptance speech he noted the successes of his first term in the education arena. He stated he looks to focus on the need for young people to look at building and construction as a viable career opportunity for the future.

March 2002 Home Show at the New Haven Coliseum. Litchfield Builders, Inc. along with 200+ other businesses show there wares at the annual event. 20,000 people come through the coliseum every year and have the opportunity to speak with representatives of a variety of businesses.

Kevin Ahern of Litchfield Builders holds a free seminar on “Understanding the process of remodeling” through the Wallingford adult education program. The class was attended by over 25 people and the feedback was overwhelming!

Other classes are held at various New Haven County towns through the adult education programs.

January 2002 HBA New Haven holds class on MEC check at the office in Branford. 20 members and non members of the association attended a seminar put on by the State of Connecticut regarding the Model Energy Code and how to use the computerized system as well as the paper system to comply with the rules for new code.
November 2001 Litchfield Builders wins HBA of Connecticut HOBI Award for best remodeling project over 2 Million Dollars in the state of Connecticut. The entire staff was on hand for the presentation of the award at the Aqua Turf in Cheshire, CT
Oct 1, 2001 Litchfield Builders named to the Qualified Remodelor 500 for the year 2001.
Sept 21, 2001 PRESS RELEASE -
Litchfield Builders Inc. in partnership with the New Haven Parks department, Public Works, Fire Department and the Mayors office built a memorial to the victims of the World Trade Center / Pentagon Tragedy on Thursday.
Special thanks to Litchfield Builders staff members - Jim Ahern, Jeff Belair, Jason Chapman, Harold Gillungham, Paul Clarke, Aklvin Duncan, Will Van Hooten and Justin Betcke for all their hard work to complete the structure in under 8 hours.
Also thanks to Larry Yelle of Best Connections Plumbing and Heating and Lighthouse Landscaping for donating their time. Also thanks to Whalley Hardware Supply and East Haven Builders Supply for donating the materials for the memorial.
